Theater lovers in Johannesburg, get ready for an incredible lineup of shows coming your way! I've put together this guide to the upcoming productions you won't want to miss.

10 SOUTH AFRICAN SOPRANOS

This is going to be something special – a sacred concert production that brings together classical opera, African traditions, choral music, and dramatic storytelling. Ten of South Africa's most talented sopranos, joined by a powerful chorus, will take you on a spiritual journey from the pain of Calvary to the hope of Christ's return. It's a beautiful blend of music, scripture, and theater that tells the story of redemption in a uniquely South African way.

MAN WITH NO SURNAME

Written by Mfundi Vundla, this intense new play follows a man searching for belonging who loses his way after the woman he loves becomes a victim of assault. The story centers on Thabo, a doctor and former freedom fighter, and Moruti, a writer returning from American exile. Set against the backdrop of the ocean with jazz, classical music, and ancestral elements, it's a gripping exploration of memory, identity, and masculinity in post-apartheid South Africa.

I'M MOMO AND I HAVE ISSUES

Award-winning actor and director MoMo Matsunyane is stepping out of character and into her own story with this raw, honest stand-up theater experience. She's opening up about growing up with a famous father, dealing with blended family dynamics, living with mental illness, and navigating relationships and politics in modern South Africa. It's comedy that cuts deep – funny, vulnerable, and completely unfiltered. This bold production is part of The Next Draft, a collaboration between POP Art and Joburg Theater's Youth and Community Development program.
