The Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) just announced that the 32nd South African Music Awards (SAMAs) are heading back to North West Province on August 15, 2026. This return to the "Platinum Province" is being called both emotional and historic for the local music scene.
North West has always been considered the traditional home of the SAMAs, hosting some of the awards' most memorable moments over the years. So this return feels like a celebration of legacy, musical excellence, and national pride all rolled into one.
The news came from North West's Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation MEC, Galerekwe Tsotso Tlhapi, on May 27, 2026. She was clearly excited about bringing South Africa's biggest music celebration back home.
"It feels like yesterday when we hosted the 28th SAMAs here in North West," MEC Tlhapi said. "This province has always been a proud and capable host, and we're ready to welcome the nation once again."
She emphasized that this isn't just another event – it's a renewed celebration of the province's cultural energy, hospitality, and creative infrastructure.
SAMA spokesperson Unati Gwija says they're already deep into planning mode. "We've begun extensive stakeholder consultations in preparation for the SAMAs. There's a strong sense of excitement and unity as we return to North West, a province that's proven itself as an exceptional host."
The announcement has the music and entertainment industry buzzing with anticipation for what's expected to be one of the most vibrant and culturally significant SAMAs yet.
MEC Tlhapi is calling SAMA 32 a "homecoming edition" – a celebration of music, legacy, and the continued evolution of South African sound on its biggest stage.
