The "Umcimbi" themed event drew fashionistas, influencers, and socialites. We spoke with Thula Sindi, the acclaimed South African designer who founded Africa Rise—a retail space showcasing premium African designer fashion.

"Africa Rise is seven years old—we opened in 2019. This Melrose Arch location is the next step. We feature 72 designers focused on beautiful products. People wonder how we manage that many, but it's simple: we select the most beautiful pieces and let creatives focus on what resonates with customers.
My current favorites? Moss from Cape Town does hand-knitted mohair, all ethically made. Stunning brand by Reyhana. Then there's Seven Heartbeats with graphic tees featuring velvet flocking, celebrating Joburg and our South African experience. It's genuinely happy, cheerful streetwear.
