Celebrating 100 years of Gallo Music, the legendary African music company is partnering with the Basadi in Music Awards to honor two incredible artists—Simphiwe Dana and Thandiswa Mazwai—with the special Gallo Renaissance Award.

This award celebrates women whose talent, influence, and dedication to African music have shaped our cultural landscape. As Gallo marks a century of championing African music, they're recognizing two extraordinary voices who've helped define South Africa's musical identity.

For over 20 years, Simphiwe Dana has moved audiences with her soulful voice, fearless storytelling, activism, and commitment to African heritage. She's challenged convention while staying authentic, earning her place as one of South Africa's most respected artists.

Thandiswa Mazwai equally deserves this honor. This cultural icon has redefined contemporary African music—from her pioneering work with Bongo Maffin to her acclaimed solo career that began at Gallo. She's remained unapologetically authentic, celebrating African identity and inspiring musicians worldwide.

Together, they represent the resilience, creativity, and excellence the Gallo Renaissance Award was created to celebrate.

The presentation is part of the 5th Annual Basadi in Music Awards, themed REWIND, celebrating five years of honoring women shaping the music industry. Under the campaign "Africa to the World," this partnership brings together two institutions committed to celebrating African excellence and preserving musical heritage.
