Matli Mohapeloa, who's known for being a well-rounded entertainer - acting, making films, and creating music - is coming back to our screens soon! He'll be starring in "Pimville," a telenovela that's scheduled to start airing on February 9, 2026, at 9:00 PM on SABC2. During a recent interview, Matli talked about his character in the series and shared some details about what he's working on now and what he has planned for the future.
Our online platform honours black excellence across and I understand this isn't just another township story - it's about celebrating true township excellence. What does Black excellence mean to you?
When we talk about Black Excellence, we're simply referring to the act of excelling. It means pursuing something—whether that's a career, philanthropy, or any other path—with dedication and purpose. When you succeed in that pursuit and do it well, especially in ways that benefit other Black people and raise standards, that's Black Excellence in action. It's about achieving at high levels and creating positive ripple effects throughout the community.
Let's talk about your role in Pimville…
My character's pretty fascinating. At first, you just see a regular African history professor at a university. But as the story unfolds in real time, you discover his many layers. It's a complete transformation - he starts as this normal guy with a perfect life, married with a steady job, but ends up becoming manipulative because of the situations he faces. The person you meet at the beginning is totally different by the end.
Interesting, so who is your viewer?
This show is super inclusive! It represents everyone in today's generation with characters from all backgrounds, plus it has a solid storyline.
So what else are you working on these days?
I am currently running a production company called Back To Square 1 with my friends Motlatsi Mafatshe and Thomas Gumede. We've been quite busy lately! We successfully released our first film earlier this year, which was an exciting milestone for us.
Currently, we're juggling multiple projects. I'm working on a film that we're producing, and we're already planning to shoot another one towards the end of the year. On top of that, I'm involved with the Pimville project. When I'm not in front of the camera acting, I'm behind it producing.
