Netflix Drops Trailer for Bad Influencer

"Bad Influencer," a new Netflix series launching October 31, 2025, tells the story of two women in Johannesburg: BK, a single mother (played by Jo-Anne Reyneke), and Pinky, a social media influencer (portrayed by Cindy Mahlangu). The seven-part series follows their involvement in the counterfeit luxury handbag trade while dealing with dangerous crime bosses Bra Alex and Jobs 'Flames' Jiyane. The show features a notable South African cast, including former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi's acting debut, and explores themes of authenticity and the contrast between social media personas and real life. We had a chat with Jo- Anne Reyneke and this is what she had to say…

Let's talk about your role on Bad Influencer

In my role, I portrayed BK, a talented handbag designer and devoted single mother facing some tough choices. Her son, who has autism spectrum disorder, attends a school that simply isn't equipped to handle his unique needs. Despite BK's incredible skill at crafting beautiful, high-end handbags, she can't seem to catch a break financially. Opening her own shop remains just out of reach without the necessary funding and business support.

Desperate to provide a better education for her son, she reluctantly turns to criminal activities. She starts making questionable decisions, eventually turning to criminal activities to secure the money needed for a suitable school that specializes in helping children like her son. But once she steps into this dangerous world, things quickly spiral out of control. Her choices lead to a series of dramatic events that not only put her own freedom at risk but also threaten the very thing she's fighting for - her son's future.

Was it difficult to portray this character? And take us through the preparation process

Preparing for this role came naturally to me. The character embodies strong maternal instincts and determination, traits that deeply resonate with my own personality. As a mother myself, I understand the fierce protective nature and the willingness to move mountains for your children - it's something that's deeply ingrained in who I am.

It was refreshing to step into BK's shoes, especially since I typically get cast as aunts or sisters in other productions. This role allowed me to explore different dimensions of motherhood, and the entire filming experience was absolutely incredible.  I can't wait for everyone to experience this journey and see how BK's story unfolds. This is definitely one of those shows that will have people binge-watching late into the night
