METRO FM MUSIC AWARDS 2026 TO CELEBRATE LEGENDS AND STARS THROUGH MUSIC AND FASHION

The METRO FM Music Awards 2026 is bringing together music legends and rising stars with incredible fashion at the Durban ICC on April 25, 2026. This year's theme, "MusicXcellence: Honoring Icons. Elevating Stars," promises to turn the black carpet into a stunning fashion showcase.

Lamiez Holworthy and Luyanda Zuma, Miss South Africa 2025 first runner up, will host the African Fashion International-sponsored black carpet event. Their energy will create an exciting welcome for all the arriving talent.

Music and fashion have always gone hand in hand, telling stories about culture, heritage, and identity. The awards are encouraging two distinct fashion styles:

**Icon-inspired fashion** represents heritage and greatness - think classic black carpet glamor with African luxury touches. We're talking elegant gowns, sharp tuxedos, and premium fabrics like velvet and satin with crystal or pearl details.

**Fresh, modern African couture** speaks to youth culture with bold statement accessories and future-facing designs that match the energy of today's music scene.

"Fashion and music speak. Fashion is storytelling," says Siyamthanda Ndube, the event's stylist. She encourages taking timeless classics or cultural references and reworking them into modern, personal outfits.

Presenter Scoop Makhathini sees the theme as a journey through South African music history, from legends like Hugh Masekela to today's Kwaito generation. For the rebellious youth, expect "street couture" - high fashion mixed with streetwear influences.

Africa Fashion International and House of NALA return as official fashion partners, with AFI sponsoring the Best Styled Artist category. This partnership highlights the powerful connection between music and fashion on a national stage.
