SID Entertainment Pty Ltd is bringing back the Soweto Kota Festival for its 9th year on September 5-6, 2026, at Elkah Cricket Oval in Rockville, Soweto.
Since it started, the festival has been Soweto's top event, consistently drawing over 15,000 people. It's become the go-to spot for Kota lovers and families wanting a great day out. While aimed at younger crowds, the festival attracts all ages and backgrounds—there's something for everyone. The live music lineup keeps people coming back, and guests can enjoy their favorite Kota varieties while taking it all in.
About 40 vendors will showcase their unique Kota styles, starting at just R60 each. There'll also be drinks available, and Ola will keep the kids and sweet lovers happy. More sponsors are jumping on board, especially from the FMCG industry, as vendors get creative with ingredients beyond the traditional chips, atchaar, and polony combo—a truly South African creation.
The festival provides jobs for over 40 unemployed youth from Soweto on event day, helping support local families. Renault is sponsoring the organizers' transportation. Founder Tshingilane is grateful to everyone supporting the festival, saying it wouldn't be possible without them.
The festival has grown from 15,000 visitors in 2019 to a record 18,000 in year five. Last year's 8th edition brought in over 16,000 people and more than 70 Kota vendors. Beyond food and entertainment, it drives local economic growth by supporting small businesses, creating temporary jobs, and giving entrepreneurs a national stage. Past sponsors appreciate the festival's authenticity and its unique ability to connect brands with communities.
