UNATHI Returns With a Deeper Vision For Music and Storytelling

South African broadcaster and singer Unathi Nkayi is returning to music after a long break. Her new single ISIKHWELE drops June 12, with her album AFRICAN LOVE coming this spring.

The soulful love song features kwaito legend Professor and rising artist Meez, exploring jealousy in relationships. For Unathi, this marks both personal healing and artistic growth.

She directed and produced the music video as a tribute to Soweto during the month honoring the Soweto Uprisings. The video also celebrates South African fashion, with Unathi showcasing local luxury designers.

"I'm proud of how I've grown creatively," Unathi said. "I've always been known for deeper storytelling, and this release reflects that."

The project includes The ISIKHWELE Series - photos by Nick Boulton that extend the video's visual story. It's all part of a multimedia approach that brings together her broadcasting background with her music.

"I wanted to show how my artistry has evolved through the creative direction, storyline, editing and styling," she explained.

About her return to music, Unathi shared: "I needed time to heal after losing my father and focus on my children. I've admired Professor for years and wanted something meaningful before the full album drops."

She's partnering with LOUD IN AFRICA, a global platform that helps share African stories worldwide, for distribution.
