The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival is back for its 27th year! This legendary African music festival returns to Sandton International Convention Center in Johannesburg on September 25-26, 2026.

What started as a small gathering of 1,800 people in 2000 has exploded into a massive celebration with over 25,000 festival-goers annually. It's become a true cornerstone of South Africa's music scene.

This year's festival is extra special, honoring both the roots of South African jazz and its exciting evolution. As Festival Producer Mantwa Chinoamadi puts it: "Joy of Jazz has always been about more than performance. It's about creating moments of connection across generations, cultures and geographies."

The timing couldn't be more meaningful. The festival aligns with two major national milestones - the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Soweto Uprising and 70 years since the 1956 Women's March.

**More Than Just Music**

Joy of Jazz isn't just entertainment - it's an economic powerhouse. The festival has historically generated over R34.5 million in direct spending, contributed around R86 million to the Gauteng economy, and created more than 1,200 jobs.

"What makes Joy of Jazz unique is its ability to create shared value for artists, audiences, small businesses and the broader economy. It's not just a festival; it's an ecosystem," Chinoamadi explains.

**The Lineup**

This year brings together incredible international stars and South African legends. Global highlights include Angélique Kidjo and acclaimed saxophonist Kamasi Washington, making his Joy of Jazz debut.

**Dinaledi Stage** features large-scale performances with Ibrahim Maalouf, McCoy Mrubata, Judith Sephuma, and more.
